Club night etiquette and procedures: All members are responsible for their own safety and that of others on Club Nights. Ideally, it is best for runners not to be isolated (either because they have been left behind, or chosen to accelerate or take a different route). However, it is recognised that these eventualities can happen. Therefore, it is imperative that all members are aware of runners who may become isolated, and that messages are conveyed to ensure the group knows what is happening, and everyone’s safe return to the Sports Centre within Caerleon College (University of Wales Newport) is ensured. When you return to the Sports Centre you must at least wait to monitor the safe return of the next runner following you before leaving for home or the changing rooms. You must never make the assumption that everyone will return safely to the Sports Centre. Accidents can happen and injuries can occur. Please be aware of the safety and security of others. NEW RECRUITS – Please take responsibility to welcome anyone who joins us on Club Nights as potential new recruits. To begin with, they don’t know us and we don’t know them, or what their likely capability will be. Make sure they are able to run with someone at a pace and distance that is comfortable for them. FLUORESCENT BIBS – On dark nights, all routes will be in areas that are lit by streetlights. Care still needs to be taken as conditions underfoot can be precarious. It is a Club Rule that every runner must wear a bib or suitable fluorescent clothing of their own. We are reliant on someone volunteering at the end of each night, to collect, wash and return the bibs – and for unused bibs to be kept safe and made available at the next Club Night. This is not onerous, as long as everyone takes their turn. Back to Club Nights: Club Nights
